About Exit, Pursued by a Bear
A modern revenge comedy about domestic abuse.
Nan has decided to teach her abusive husband Kyle a lesson. With the help of her friend Simon (acting as her emotional — and actual — cheerleader) and a stripper named Sweetheart, she tapes Kyle to a chair and forces him to watch as they reenacts scenes from their painful past. In the piece de resistance, they plan to cover the room in meat and honey so Kyle will be mauled by a bear. Through this night of emotional trials and ridiculous theatrics, Nan and Kyle are both freed from their past in this smart, dark revenge comedy.

Notes
Actors will agree to play as cast.
Once cast, actors will agree to not cut or dye hair, get new tattoos or piercings without consulting with the costume designer and director. (You may be asked to wait until the show is over.) Personal accessories, including glasses, will be worn at the discretion of the costume designer and director.
Nan Carter, 27, female, quick, like a deer. Determined – mostly – to end her husband’s abuse and end her victimhood. She has a plan.
Kyle Carter, 28, male, Nan’s husband, a big messy good ol’ boy, like a dumb dirty dog. Sometimes bullish, but he has a cagey side.
Sweetheart/Peaches/SuperKyle, (all of which are the same girl) around 20, Nan’s friend, female stripper. What she lacks in education, she makes up for in enthusiasm. She plays different roles with flair.
Simon Beaufort, 27, Nan’s best friend, strong, and loyal, and bitchy, like a cat. He wears a cheerleading outfit…a girl’s cheerleading outfit.
