Medical attention and SANE exams are recommended as soon as possible, even if an individual does not want to pursue criminal charges. These resources can provide physical exams, sexual and reproductive health services (e.g., STI and pregnancy testing), and emergency contraception. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are available at emergency rooms to collect evidence up to five days following a sexual assault. Evidence collection does not require police intervention or legal action.

Supportive measures are non-disciplinary, non-punitive individualized services offered as appropriate, as reasonably available, and without fee or charge to the Complainant or the Respondent before or after the filing of a formal complaint or where no formal complaint has been filed. Such measures—including measures designed to protect the safety of all parties or the University’s educational environment, or deter sexual harassment—are designed to restore or preserve equal access to the University’s education program or activity without unreasonably burdening the other party. The University will maintain as confidential any supportive measures provided to the Complainant or Respondent, to the extent that maintaining such confidentiality would not impair the ability of the University to provide the supportive measures.
Students interested in accessing supportive measures should contact the Title IX coordinator at 508-929-8243 or jquinn@worcester.edu.
Supportive measures may include, but are not limited to:
- Counseling
- Extensions of deadlines or other course-related adjustments
- Modifications of work or class schedules or dining arrangements
- Campus escort services
- Mutual restrictions on contact between the parties
- Changes in work or housing locations
- Restrictions from areas of campus
- Leaves of absence
- Increased security and monitoring of certain areas of the campus
- Statutorily provided leave to employees and other similar measures

The Rave Guardian app is one of the best ways to improve not only your personal safety on the Worcester State campus but also your fellow guardians’ safety within your own private safety network. This app also can put you in direct contact with University Police in an emergency.
The app allows you to do the following:
- Set a safety timer – Notify people you trust to check in on you if you are alone or in an unfamiliar place.
- Manage and message your guardians – Invite family, friends, or others to be your Guardian, and communicate with them within the app as needed.
- Communicate easily in an emergency – Call University Police directly for help if you are in trouble and send text tips—including photos—if you see something suspicious.
- Access an emergency button – Send GPS location and personal profile information directly and immediately to University Police if you are in an emergency situation.
- Text tips – Report an anonymous crime-tip via SMS or mobile app.
Download Rave Guardian or search for it at the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Note: This app is separate from the Rave Alert software used to notify the campus community of incidents such as inclement weather closings or delays.
