The PAL Program
The Peer-Assisted Learning program is a student-led, instructor-supported group study and review session program that is run by trained student facilitators who were highly successful in the course.
What is PAL?
- PAL is Peer-Assisted Learning which means that students learn from fellow students in a group setting.
- PAL mentors attend the classes they mentor every week and formulate group activities based on the lessons in class and student feedback.
- It is NOT tutoring, NOT lecturing, and is NOT a question-and-answer session.
- PAL mentors reinforce material learned in class in a group setting!
Why should I attend PAL sessions?
- Studies show that utilizing the PAL program can potentially boost your grade by an entire letter!
- PAL sessions provide an opportunity for an alternative learning method not found in the classroom or through tutoring.
- Course instructors will not be made aware of your attendance or lack thereof- this is a learning opportunity for your own benefit and curated specifically for your classes.
- You don’t have to have questions, do the reading, or finish
your homework to attend (but it might help!) - Sessions are held at least twice weekly by each PAL mentor for an hour- but students are encouraged to drop by anytime!
If you are enrolled in any of the PAL-offered courses…
You should have access to a Blackboard shell called PAL: Peer Assisted Learning. You can find more information about how to contact your PAL mentors and Zoom sessions here. Contact us if you have any questions about your access.
