Government Policy Programs

As a public state university, Worcester State can assist residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands displaced by Hurricanes Irma and Maria who relocate to Massachusetts and want to continue their college education. Through an action by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, we can extend in-state tuition to applicants who are evacuees of these two U.S. territories. >> Learn more

Campus Programs

The Multicultural Affairs Office and Latino Education Institute help underrepresented minorities prepare to enroll and succeed in college.

• Multicultural Affairs is one of many offices that provide support services to students of color. The office takes a comprehensive and intensive approach to increasing the effectiveness of minority, low-income, first-generation college students—including programs for pre-college years. Staff mentor students who belong to the Third World Alliance student organization and organize the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Breakfast. Its signature programs are:

• Each year, the Latino Education Institute serves more than 2,800 families in the city of Worcester with programs in education, literacy, leadership, civic engagement, health, and violence prevention.

Our Student Accessibility Services office coordinates support services and programs that enable equal access to education and university life for students with disabilities. The office also works with students to develop self-advocacy and other life skills and advises Worcester State’s chapter of Delta Alpha Pi, the international honor society for students with disabilities.

Tying it all together, our Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging office plays a leading role in fostering a campus climate that promotes the intellectual examination of experiences, perspectives, and contributions of the various cultures and groups that make up the Worcester State community. Part of that effort involved the Campus Climate Committee, which spent a year carefully evaluating diversity, inclusion, and equity on campus for students and employees.
