Club Highlight | Student Events Committee

The Student Events Committee is the major programming body on campus. OSILD spoke with former President Victoria Lemire to learn more about SEC!

Club Name: Student Events Committee (SEC)
Mission: The purpose of this organization is to serve as the primary programming board for all of Worcester State University’s commuter and resident students.  SEC’s function is to broaden and enrich the education and social experiences through programming and planning activities and events for the WSU community. This year, SEC has been specifically focused on finding ways to engage WSU students through virtual programming.
Club Meeting Time:  Tuesdays at 3pm via Zoom – email us for the meeting link!
Contact information/Social Media: IG @wsu_sec | Email sec@worcester.edu

Why should students get involved with your organization?
We allow students to bring any idea for a campus event that they have to the table. There are no wrong ideas. If you want to see something happen on campus, we can make it happen.

What types of events and/or programs do you do throughout the year?
We have 5 different committees that plan different types of events. Our After Hours committee plans any events on weekends or after 5pm (virtual trivia, how to bake pumpkin whoopie pies, etc.). Our Special Events committee plans any special events like Octoberfest and Spring Week. Our Daytime Committee plans any events on weekdays before 5pm like Make and Takes. Our Performances committee has brought in comedians, mentalists, and mediums. Our Trips committee plans trips off campus like to Six Flags, New York City, etc.

What has been one of the biggest successes of this organization?
Our special events like Octoberfest and Spring Week typically get hundreds of students to participate.

What do you think your organization brings to the students at Worcester State?
SEC allows students to stop stressing about classes for a second. It brings fun and enjoyment to many students and staff. We have stress free events, lots of games, and the chances to win tons of free stuff.

How can interested students join SEC?
Interested students should email us at sec@worcester.edu to learn how to join! Every member gets a free SEC member t-shirt after 3 events!

How can the campus community learn more about your programs and events?
The campus community can learn more about our events by following us on Instagram @wsu_sec. If you don’t have an Instagram, keep an eye out for our flyers, sandwich boards which are located in Lancer’s Loft and the POD, or the OSILD Weekly email newsletter, which is sent to students every Monday!
