Many of the supports and resources available for those who identify within the LGBTQ+ community are available at Worcester State itself, but there are also resources at the municipal, state, and national level.
The LGBTQIA+ Resource Center is an on-campus, inclusive space dedicated to advocating for the needs of LGBTQIA+ students and allies. The LGBTQIA+ Resource Center works directly with the LGBTQ+ Alliance, LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board, and all members of the university to encourage understanding and acceptance of community members on campus. The Worcester State University Out and Ally list is a resource provided by the Worcester State LGBTQIA+ Resource Center. By agreeing to be part of the Out and Ally list, you are helping to promote LGBTQIA+ awareness and visibility on campus and in the Worcester State community.
The Out and Ally List serves and acts as a resource for LGBTQIA+ students seeking guidance, academic and non-academic support and all Worcester State community members wishing to connect.

LGBTQ+ Alliance provides students at Worcester State and within the community with a forum for the issues relating to sexual orientation and sexuality and provides a place to socialize and plan campus programs. Members of LGBTQ+ Alliance aim to encourage understanding and acceptance of members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Worcester State University prides itself as an inclusive campus, especially those with diverse gender identities, gender expressions, and/or sexualities. The designated gender inclusive bathrooms listed below are all accessible, single use, and may be used by any student, staff, and faculty as the university encourages individuals to use the restroom they feel most comfortable in.

Gender-affirming care (GAC) refers to resources and treatments that help transgender and nonbinary students feel more aligned with their gender identity, particularly when their gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. GAC can also refer to any healthcare someone receives, whether they are cisgender or transgender, that affirms their gender, even when the care does not directly relate to gender.

Health Services is a confidential, on-campus resource that provides students with accessible, convenient, and affordable health care. Clinical staff includes nurse practitioners and physicians from the UMass Medical/UMass Memorial Health System working in affiliation with Worcester State University. Health Services provides a safe, caring environment for LGBTQ+ students. The staff is committed to addressing the health needs of LGBTQ+ students. Services include: support, medical care and community referral.

The Counseling Center is a confidential, on-campus resource that assists students in coping with personal issues that interfere with their personal and academic development and sense of well-being. LGBTQ+ students may face stressors that differ from those of their peers. Counselors are available to treat a wide-variety of LGBTQ+ student concerns, including:
Following intake paperwork and an initial evaluation, counselors will work with LGBTQ+ students to assess the level of services the student needs. This may include weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly appointments, as well as referrals to community resources.

The Counseling Center will utilize a student’s chosen name except for when their legal name is required on legal documents.

In a recent update to university policy, students, faculty, and staff can now designate a chosen first name, pronouns, and non-binary gender identity within our information system. Chosen name will be used on internal campus communications wherever a legal name is not necessary.
Your chosen name will be reflected throughout the university’s computer information systems (including course registration lists, OneCard, Blackboard, and email addresses), and will be the official way you will be addressed throughout your daily life in our campus community. Students who would like to update information can visit the Registrar’s Office and fill out the “Chosen Name, Gender Identity, and Pronoun Request Form.”
After the form has been processed, you can update your OneCard and email address. For email address updates, submit a help desk ticket.

Introductory communication theory and practice across cultural groups defined by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, nationality, politics, and economics.
Focus on the need for and understanding of sex education, along with the process of implementing sexuality education, with emphasis upon teacher preparation.
Examines the development of feminist ideas and movements from the 18th century to the present, in the US and, particularly in recent decades, globally. A close analysis of Second Wave, Postmodern, and Black Feminist ideas are studied as a basis for writings and social action that attends to issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality, using intersectional methodologies and critiques to address issues of reproduction and health, labor and economic power, violence, and state power.
This course is an introduction to the study of same-sex sexualities, their meanings and social organizations, across cultures and through time. The materials for the course are drawn from an array of disciplines, from biology to history, but center upon cultural and urban anthropology. Students will learn to think critically about the role of culture and society in the construction of genders and sexualities worldwide with an emphasis on urban contexts.

he Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) is responsible for providing a comprehensive approach to addressing incidents of bias that challenge the university’s mission, core values, civility policies, Policy Against Discrimination, Discriminatory Harassment and Retaliation, and efforts toward improving campus climate. BIRT is comprised of faculty, staff, and students who represent various divisions, departments, and disciplines and are committed to creating a safe and welcoming campus environment.
Any conduct, speech, or expression that is directed against or toward an individual or group based on perceived or actual characteristics of race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national or ethnic origin, marital status, age, disability, or veteran status. These acts are primarily motivated by prejudice or hatred that demeans and/or harasses others based upon their membership in a protected category.
All members of the Worcester State community who experience or witness a bias incident should immediately report the incident via the Bias Incident Reporting. All reports of bias incidents are directed to the EO Officer and/or their designee(s) and then taken to the BIRT.
