Worcester State University

For Prospective Students (Class of 2017)

We're delighted you're considering Worcester State and we welcome your interest in the Honors Program! Joining Honors doesn't require any special action on your part; if you are eligible (typically an SAT score of 1100 minus the writing portion plus a minimum of 3.2 high school GPA), we will contact you during the admissions process and invite you to join honors. We would be happy to talk or email with you during the admissions process if you have questions about your eligibility or about how the process works. If you are a transfer student interested in honors, please alert us during your application process and complete the online form so we can see if honors is appropriate for you.

We will send invitations to join honors starting in January of 2013. If you receive an invitation to join honors, please RSVP promptly with a yes or no answer. Enrollment in honors is NOT automatic; you need to opt in to the program with a "yes" RSVP. We usually accept about 80 incoming first year students into the honors program each fall.

Over the summer during advising and orientation, you will register for one of our Honors first-year experience learning communities. Your freshman first-year seminar (FYS) will be an all-Honors class, as will your English class, EN 250, "Creative Thinking and Critical Writing." It is also sometimes possible for some of your other first-semester courses to be taken as honors; you can consult with the summer advising team about that when you choose courses. We also work with campus housing to try to cluster some honors students together in the first-year residence halls. Beginning in 2013, honors students who are on-campus residents will be guaranteed two years of housing. Also starting in 2013, we are piloting an optional Honors House living community for sophomores, junior and seniors in a wing of Wasylean Hall.

We look forward to meeting you in person during our spring admissions events. Please contact us if you'd like to set up a meeting during a campus tour. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us or drop by to visit. Under the "Contact Us" tab, you'll find our emails, phone numbers, and links to our social media outlets, including our blog, Facebook and Twitter.
