Welcome Message

On behalf of the faculty and staff, it is my great pleasure to welcome you as a member of our Dr. Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing community.

Our focus is on a very special type of nursing student – one who wishes to excel in the profession.  Worcester State University’s Dr. Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing has a long and distinguished history of over 35 years preparing the finest professional nurses who care, cure, and create new knowledge in improving the health of individuals, families, and communities. Most importantly, our nursing graduates assume leadership roles throughout the state and beyond and actively shape the health care of tomorrow.

In committing yourself to professional nursing you are presented with a myriad of challenging professional opportunities in nursing.  Whether you choose clinical practice positions, advanced practice roles, nursing research, or faculty opportunities, we are delighted to provide you with the educational foundation necessary to support your personal objectives and your lifelong journey of professional development.

In joining the Dr. Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing you become a part of a community dedicated to scholarship and excellence.  We excel not only in education, but also in our use of innovative technologies to enhance learning, including our innovative graduate programs of study, and our state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory.  Our academic programs have been designed to prepare you for evidence-based nursing practice and to link theory with interdisciplinary research, hands-on practice, and service-learning opportunities.  As a member of our community, your contributions to these activities are important to our continued success.

Professional practice in nursing is dedicated to the advancement of health and health care through science and its application.  I hope you will gain a deeper understanding of what that means as you experience the dedication our faculty members have to your development.  I encourage you to get to know them – they are leaders not only of our own community, but of the nursing profession, and as leading nurse scientists, they contribute internationally recognized research and life-saving knowledge to the benefit of society.

Our greatest accomplishments though are the 1,800 Worcester State University nurses who are serving patients in our community and around the world. Our graduates are making an important difference in the lives of others.  I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the opportunities available at Worcester State University and how you can be a part of them!

While you are here studying your future profession, you will have many opportunities.  I invite you to make good use of them to firmly establish your career in nursing and prepare you for the challenges that await you.  I encourage you to learn, explore, and achieve!

Best wishes,
Dr. Stephanie Chalupka
