(Worcester, Mass.) – Relevant, striking and contemporary, Rebecca Gilman’s Boy Gets Girl reveals what happens when a blind date takes a turn for the worse.
Worcester State Theatre and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts proudly present Boy Gets Girl in the Fuller Theater Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Following the Friday, April 15 performance, there will be a panel of WSU Women’s Studies and Psychology faculty who will discuss the plays’ relevant themes and real-world implications.
Theresa Bedell is a career woman who’s got everything figured out until she goes on a few blind dates with Tony. After rejecting his offer for a third date, Theresa soon discovers that Tony’s unrelenting attention is escalating: from a flurry of flowers, to witty apologies, and then threatening voice-mail messages. Theresa realizes she must find a way out before it’s too late.
Boy Gets Girl is directed by Chris Webb, an adjunct professor of theatre, who has directed for New Repertory Theatre, the Peterborough Players, and Foothills. Webb teaches at Boston Conservatory and appears in the films “War Dogs” and “Shutter Island.” Boy Gets Girl set and lighting is designed by Assistant Professor of Theatre John Howell Hood, sound design by Adjunct Professor of Theatre Susan Johnson-Hood, and costume design by Erica Hall ’11. As a visual and performing arts major, Hall has done extensive work in the costume shop working alongside Johnson-Hood for the past three years. She is designing the costumes for this show as her senior capstone.
Performances are Thursday, April 14 through Saturday, April 16 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. Fuller Theater is located on the second floor of the Helen G. Shaughnessy Administration Building. Tickets are $7 for students, $14 general admission, and $10 for seniors. Tickets can be purchased the the Box Office (adjacent to the theater), at the Student Center Information Desk or at the door.
