One Circle

One Circle -- a collaborative project of the Worcester Youth center, the Latino Education Institute/ Worcester State University and Plumley Village --is an arts and leadership initiative serving 80 girls (ages 10-14) from Worcester each year for three years. The Latino Education Institute program meets twice a week for two hours at Worcester State University and provides girls with skills proven to enhance their self-esteem, communication, education, healthy relationships and increased self-confidence through self-expression and creativity in the arts. One Circle uses the research based Girls Circle Curriculum that is based on structured support groups for girls ages 9 to 18. This curriculum is utilized nationwide in a broad spectrum of settings. The LEI One Circle units provide girls with a safe environment to explore elements of self-identity, understand external factors that impact the girls’ vision of themselves and practice self-confident behavior. In addition to programming offered by each collaborative partner, leading art institutions in Worcester provide tailor-made art experiences designed to enhance self expression and strengthen identity.

Students will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 pm-5:30 pm throughout the academic year. If you need further information for the program please contact the following.

One Circle is funded in part by the Daniels Foundation. The arts portion is funded by the generous support of the Worcester Arts Council and Massachusetts Cultural Council.
