How To:  Join a Domain (XP Professional)

{Students use "ACL" domain & Faculty/Staff use "WSC_Domain" domain}

Ensure that your computer is running Windows XP Professional (XP Home or lower will not work) AND has a UNIQUE name (the Service Tag or Serial # of your unit can serve this purpose).  If your computer name is not unique - you will not be able to add your computer to the domain.)  Once your computer meets the criteria run the following script by clicking on this link -> Join a Domain - you will need your WSC Network username and password.

To verify your operating system ("OS") do the following: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System - if your "OS" is XP Home Edition you will not be able to join the domain* {Microsoft Windows XP Professional can be purchased at the IT HelpDesk LRC room 310}

To check/change the name of your computer do the following:  Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Select the 'Computer Name' tab > Select the 'Change' button > type in the new 'unique!' Computer name in the specified field > Select the OK button on the Computer Name Changes window > Select the OK button on the System Properties window.  (If your computer name is not unique - you will not be able to add your computer to the domain.)
